Fees and who you pay

Nothing to mail. WisDOT cannot issue a title for a junked vehicle, so there is no application to send.

Order of steps

  1. 1. Confirm the document really is form MV2459.
  2. 2. Read which box the owner checked and keep the original.
  3. 3. Do not file an MV1 or a bonded title application (MV2082) for it.
  4. 4. Keep the listing and receipt for any dealings with the seller or auction.
  5. 5. If a vehicle came with a salvage title instead, use the auction or salvage checklist.

Check before you mail

  • Any title application for a vehicle with a junked record. Section 342.34(3) says no certificate of title may be issued.
  • A bonded title application for a junked vehicle. The bond process is for vehicles that can be titled.
  • Expecting repairs or restoration to change it. WisDOT says a junked vehicle can never be titled or licensed again.

Made by TitleFiled from WisDOT forms and pages and Wisconsin statutes, checked 2026-10-31. WisDOT decides every application; rules can change, so confirm with WisDOT before you mail. About this checklist

This checklist is short on purpose. Form MV2459 says no certificate of title will be issued, and section 342.34(3) bars titling a junk vehicle. There is nothing to file and no fee to pay.

A bonded title does not get around this, and neither does any paid service, ours included. Use this sheet to confirm what you have and keep the right records.

Each line comes from WisDOT's own forms and pages or the Wisconsin statutes listed below. It does not choose options on a form for you, and WisDOT makes the final call on every application.
